FPL Gameweek 7

You counted me out, yet look at me rising! 2-5 and on the come up, but I have terrible news to share- I made a fatal mistake. You know the button you’re meant to press when you want to use the wildcard….. turns out I forgot about its existence. So, to IamJoseMurinho, you’ll be 40 or so points up before a ball is kicked this weekend. I hope you’re happy with such an advantage- if you were a true sportsman you’d make the same mistake to even the playing field, but no pressure. Anyway to more pressing matters, let’s delve into Gameweek 6!

To the high-level statistics, the average points scored in the league this week was 51, higher than the average across all FPL players at 49. I suspect my rallying cry last week did the trick as deep inside us we knew there was more to offer.  Comparing last week’s average fixture differential (11 points), it has increased markedly to 14 points this week. Only 5/18 games were decided by single digits, whilst 7/18 of the fixtures had a 15+ points differential, and 6 fixtures by 20+ points (an increase from 4 last week). We saw no draws registered this week, with only 3 closely contested fixtures (decided by 1,2 & 3 points respectively).

Notable mentions:

  1. Fixtures of the week: I expected the matchup between ChaBALRS vs Kwamz FC to be ‘Goals Galore’ and the highest scoring pairing, however it did not live up to its billing. ChaBALRS would’ve been disappointed that his wildcard did not bear further dividends, but he got the win either way. Kwamz FC’s trust in United seems to be failing him, with Rashford putting up another 2 pointer alongside Hojlund (who shall receive no hate whatsover- watch out everyone). The predicted ‘Upset of the Week’ proved correct as IamJoseMurinho emerged victorious by 2 points against RayzFC. It was by no means pretty, with below the par scores for both sides, but RayzFC’s 8 point transfer deduction proved the killer on this occasion. We know all too well how the extra signings can be the difference between winning and losing. IamHimFC vs Sweet Potatoes FC (the predicted ‘Neck and Neck’ tie) was not as close as I’d predicted, with the margin of victory actually 22 points but reduced to 10 due to additional transfers made. With 7/11 and 6/11 players respectively scoring 2 or less points for the teams, Sweet Potatoes’ output from Bowen and Colwill sealed the deal.

  2. Top scorer: This goes to blue bandits (second time already this season) with the highest total so far of all weeks at 95 points. A nigh on complete performance across the board as 8 of her players had 7+ points outputs. With the largest fixture differential of the week too (33 points), this was as clinical as it gets. Kudos my friend, kudos. Closest to her tally was Chrissyleboss XI with 91 points, then there’s a significant drop off after that. The bell curve came into play big time this week where most scored around the average total (my maths people can relate).

  3. Blooper: This has to be the biggest fall from grace in recent history. In fact, there are two candidates for the title this week: Casuals is number 1, as he went from last week’s highest scorer (89) to this week’s lowest (24), and no transfers were made. How that is possible I’m not quite sure, but I doubt we will see a larger week to week swing this season. Second is Nu Creations, whose acts of kindness and fair play had extended for its second week. Previously, he handed me my first win and set me on my enlightened path, now he has done it again for WeBackAgain and ended his winless record. Whilst we are all for equality, this is business at the end of the day, so Mr Creations please return to winning ways. Your generosity is well noted but it can stop now.

  4. Unlucky: When I look through the performances this week not many should feel hard done by with their results. The only one who suffered a degree of ‘ill-fate’ was CK, whose 1 point loss could have been salvaged if Andersen 15 points was not left on the bench, but then again StomachRumbles also left Coufal’s 12 points unutilised. If one had to get the crown it would be CK, but all should make peace with their outcomes.

  5. Making Moves: All or nothing V3 takes this one by rising 9 places to 11th place after his 22 point victory. Mainoo Shoes was also a high riser, up 8 positions to 14th place following his 28 point victory. On the flipside, 4 players dropped 7 positions with RayzFC the most notable as he only lost by 2 points. Perhaps he was the unlucky player of the week after all.

Looking to the final set of fixtures before the next international break, I predict the following:

  1. Upset of the week: Kwamz FC vs Excellent Finish. In a season thus far where the table toppers have been defeated by those languishing near the bottom, I predict this trend to continue. Whilst our league leader Excellent Finish has been ultra consistent with a solitary loss to his name, I think Kwamz FC has the firepower to topple him over. With a 74 points differential across the 7 games, this should be an easy victory for the visitors, but we’ve seen stranger things happen before.

  2. Neck and neck: DanDamn419 vs VibesFC. With both possessing a 3-4 record this season and placed 24th/25th respectively, this looks like a nail-biter. DanDamn419 slightly edges it points-wise with 400 to his name versus 397, but he comes off a humbling loss (to myself) whilst VibesFC added a W to her name. If I was a betting man I’d take a Vibes win by no more than 4 points.

  3. Goals galore: Chrissyleboss XI vs #1 FC. I can’t lie I’m excited for this one. I think #1 might sneak a victory, but I expect both to score above the GW average. Another fixture to watch out for is blue bandits vs IamHimFC.

Until next time,

To a simpler life;
