FPL Gameweek 6

Hahahaha, what a moment in history this is. This is a special time for us all. I know you were all on my side interceding as we knew the fate of this league rested on this result, but you can relax now- THE WAIT IS OVER.  1-5…. I suggest you start looking over your shoulders!

To the high-level statistics, the average points scored in the league this week was 65, which is in line with the average across all FPL players. I must say since the first week of the season we’ve either been on trend or below par compared to the league average, which is surprising as I thought we were the crème de la crème. Some of you need to buckle up your ideas as you’re dragging us down. Comparing last week’s average fixture differential (8 points), it widened again to 11 points this week. Only 7/18 games were decided by single digits, whilst a third of the fixtures had a 15+ points differential, and 4 fixtures by 20+ points (an increase from 1 last week). We saw no draws registered this week, but there were some close affairs, with 3 fixtures decided by a single point.

Notable mentions:

  1. Fixture of the week: As mentioned above, my fixture against previously top of the table Nu Creations (until he faced me) was a comfortable victory with an 11 point differential. For objectivity sake it is worth noting that we both scored below the league average, so it’s fair to say I caught him on an off day. The result was clinched by Mitoma’s match-winning double off the bench for Brighton, pocketing me 14 points in the process. With 7 of his players scoring 3 points or less, it was the perfect opportunity for me to capitalise.

  2. Top scorer: The highest score goes to Casuals with an impressive 89 points, buoyed by 6 players generating double digit returns, however the true shoutout is to Rassclart Addz as a 4 points transfer deduction brought him down to 86. Had he included Almiron instead of Mbeumo and Kabore instead Saliba he would’ve scored 101 points! Other notable mentions go to JCFC, who scored 88 points with the potential of a further 10 points, Yessirree FC, and StomachRumbles.

  3. Blooper: In a week of many inspired performances, Sweet Potatoes FC left much to be desired, with a league low 33 points. The defenders generated a combined total of -2 points, whilst the majority of the team contributed 1 or 2 points. It was a week to forget as he also suffered the biggest loss differential of 30 points, even though his opponent Excellent Finish scored below the FPL average. There was nothing to be positive about, except it only counts for 1 out of 38 games. With no time for wallowing, the fixtures keep pouring in.

  4. Unlucky: This quite clearly goes to JCFC whose 88 point performance was the second highestin the league however he faced the one player who could deny him victory. This H2H league can be very cruel at times, but you have to take the good with the bad.

  5. Making Moves: Only 2 players remained in the same position as this was a week of reshuffling. RayzFC made the largest move by climbing 9 positions to 13th place, whilst Casuals moved up 8 places to 12th and Aguerooooooooo down to 18th from 10th place. Also worth noting Nu Creations’s first loss saw him drop from 1st to 6th….. what a deadly day it was.

Looking to the next fixtures, I predict the following:

  1. Upset of the week: RayzFC (13th place) vs IamJoseMurinho (34th place). Whilst this on paper should be a straightforward victory for the host, a little digging shows that IamJoseMurinho has actually scored more points across the 6 games than RayzFC (305 to 303), yet has lost 5 out of 6 compared to a 3-1-2 stat line for the latter. Perhaps this will be the week to minimise the disparity between the two.

  2. Neck and neck: IamHimFC vs Sweet Potatoes FC presents itself as a closely fought contest as they are 23rd and 24th respectively, but unless things change I expect a battering in favor of the host.

  3. Goals galore: ChaBALRS vs Kwamz FC looks to be the highest scoring fixture this week, with both teams boasting formidable attacks with the option of rotation depending on favourable matchups. No need for transfers to be made for both teams- watch out for this one!

Until next time,
