FPL Gameweek 9
It’s been a while hasn’t it- I hope I was missed….. The league came back with a bang, with 35 goals across the 10 league games so there was much to savour. To the high-level statistics, the average points scored in the league this week was 69, slightly higher than the average across all FPL players at 67. Comparing last week’s average fixture differential (10 points), this more than doubled to a staggering 23 points this week. I’m not quite sure what caused such a large increase in this statistic, but from what I can see those without Salah or the Spurs contingent suffered considerably. Only 4/18 (down from 10 last week) of the games were decided by single digits, whilst 13/18 of the fixtures had a 15+ points differential, and 9 fixtures by 20+ points. There were also no draws across the 18 games.
Notable mentions:
Fixtures of the week: For the ‘Upset of the Week’ I trusted in my ability and was justified. It was a resounding victory against Chrissyleboss XI with my midfield and attack making all the difference. With the Manchester derby this Sunday I’m hoping against the same output from the City strike force but I wouldn’t bet against it. My other prediction (‘TA TA TA’ to defeat Undisputed) did not turn out to be the case, with the latter posting the second highest total of the week and winning by 16 points. Next, to the ‘Neck and Neck’ tie between WeBackAgain andIamJoseMurinho it was a blowout in the end, as the host failed to record his second win of the season. He could not compete with the all-round performance from the visitor in what should have been a close affair. All or nothing V3 vs Yessirree FC was much closer in one of the few games with a single digit differential, whilst the sole fixture decided by a solitary point was between VibesFC & blue bandits. Finally, for the ‘Goals Galore’ game it was neither close nor particularly high scoring as Agueroooooooo failed to live up to her billing. A below average score of 65 dampened proceedings and led to a relatively easy victory for Rassclart Addz who moved up to first in the league.
Top scorer: With our first triple digit performance, this goes to Sweet Potatoes FC with a 103 points total and 46 point margin of victory. It doesn’t get much better than this as he had positive output from all bar 2 of his players which saw him move up 4 positions to 9th in the league.
Blooper: I think we have our first tanker of the season… IamHimFC scored 34 points, effectively half of the league average, fielded 2 injured defenders, and captained Rashford. If this isn’t tanking I don’t know what is. My friend you need to buckle up your ideas- the league doesn’t truly start till Christmas.
Unlucky: For the simple fact this was the only game with a 1 point difference blue bandits takes this one. Everyone else deserved their fate so no one can complain.
Making Moves: IamJoseMurinho took this one with a 7 position ascension to 23rd. A few others rose by 5, whilst on the lower end, Causals, IamHimFC & DanDman419 all dropped 5 places.
Looking forward to GW 10, here are my predictions below:
Upset of the week: I suspect this to be the tie between Sweet Potatoes FC (9th place: 6-3 record) & #1FC (28th place: 3-6 record). I think #1FC is slightly undervalued as he’s on a 4 game losing streak, albeit 2 of those by very small margins. The host on the other hand had the gameweek of his life, so in keeping with FPL heritage expect a resounding loss.
Neck and neck: Excellent Finish vs CK could be a close contest with both at the top end of the league (2nd and 4th respectively). Both squads are very similar so it’ll be fine margins that decides this one.
Goals galore: The aforementioned fixture is a good candidate for this, however I’ll go with Chrissyleboss XI vs VibesFC as their squads align nicely with the games this week.
Until next time,
To a simpler life;
