FPL Gameweek 10

Another week another win. I’m chasing the pack, game by game. Momentum can be lost in a second but it is built over time- I am chomping at the bit to ensure it continues. With last week’s aberration in reference to  the fixture differential, this week saw a return to normality. To the high-level statistics, the average points scored in the league this week was 66, which was in line with the average across all FPL players. Comparing last week’s average fixture differential (23 points), this was brought back down to a reasonable 10 points this week. 12/18 (up from 4 last week) of the games were decided by single digits, whilst 5/18 of the fixtures had a 15+ points differential, and 4 fixtures by 20+ points. There were also 2 draws across the 18 games, the first of its kind for the last few weeks.

Notable mentions:

  1. Fixtures of the week: For the ‘Upset of the Week’ I predicted that, and I quote: “I think #1FC is slightly undervalued as he’s on a 4 game losing streak, albeit 2 of those by very small margins. The host on the other hand had the gameweek of his life, so in keeping with FPL heritage expect a resounding loss.” Boy was I proven correct! #1FC won by 27 points even though he scored below the GW average, which goes to show the fall from grace that Sweet Potatoes FC suffered. For the ‘Neck and Neck’ tie between Excellent Finish vs CK this was indeed closely contested, with the visitor stealing the victory by 2 points. Surprisingly both teams scored below the GW average, but CK will not care as he left with 3 points in his pocket. For the ‘Goals Galore’ game I was off with this one as the fixture between Chrissyleboss XI vs VibesFC was bang in line with the GW average. In reality, the highest fixture was between Yessirree FC and TA TA TA with a combined score of 170 points.

  2. Top scorer: This goes to TA TA TA with a 90 points total in the aforementioned highest scoring fixture. The pairing of Haaland and Nketiah accounted for more than 1/2 of his points whilst he achieved this tally despite 5 of his players posting returns of 3 points or less. Newcastle’s 2-2 draw against Wolves proved telling as the 0 point scores for Dan Burn and Kieran Trippier cost Yessirree FC dearly.

  3. Blooper: With an 8 point transfer deduction, Sweet Potatoes FC registered the fewest points of the week (39) which otherwise would’ve tied him with last week’s loser IamHimFC. No need to reiterate the point- we know it wasn’t his best week at the office.

  4. Unlucky: With two draws registered this week, my pick goes to A Shaw Thing who will be ruing Robert Sanchez’s decision to come up for a corner in the last seconds of the game against Brentford. With the odds of him scoring a last minute equaliser lower than the probability of Bruno Fernandes achieving 95% pass accuracy in a game, one would question the efficacy of such decisions. Surely it would be more logical to have the keeper stationed just outside the box where they could halt any counterattacks as opposed to half-heartedly going for the header. Overall I mention this because the second goal scored by Brentford resulted in Levi Colwill being deducted a point, a point which snatched victory from his hands. As I always say, FPL is the league of fine margins, for better or for worse.

  5. Making Moves: I took this one as my ascension is taking shape. I rose 7 positions to 22nd, and expect to be in the top half of the table by next week (watch out Sweet Potatoes FC)! Luke Sure rose 6 positions to 20th, whilst DanDman419, #1FC & JCFC rose 5 positions. On the flip side, blue bandits and IamHimFC dropped 7 places to 31st and 32nd respectively, whilst Vibes FC and Casuals dropped 6 spots.

Looking forward to GW 11, here are my predictions below:

  1. Upset of the week: If I had to choose one, this would be between CK (2nd place) vs Luke Sure(20th place). In all honesty looking through the fixtures there aren’t many options as most games are between sides placed in and around each other.

  2. Neck and neck: Farabale 5 vs Kwamz FC should be a high scoring, close contest. As of now they have similar squads but there could be some movement by the time the GW commences. I think Farabale 5 might nick this by 3 points, 72-69 the final score.

  3. Goals galore: I reckon Casuals vs Gabi Gabby Gabi should be a high scoring affair as both squads possess attacking potency across their team. I expect the visitor to be within the top 3 highest scorers this week.

Until next time,

To a simpler life;
