FPL Gameweek 2

We’re back again for Gameweek 2. For our high-level statistics, the average points scored in the league this week was 46, which was only slightly higher than the average across all FPL players at 44. Comparing last week’s average fixture differential (which was actually 13 points as opposed to 6 due to a double counting error), it was up to 16 points this week. This can be explained as only a third of the games were decided by less than ten points, whereas half of the fixtures had a points differential of greater than 16 points. Fewer managers captained Haaland this time around as they foresaw City’s tough matchup against Newcastle with many favoring Salah instead, albeit his penalty miss diminishing his total.

The league table is much changed with Excellent Finish occupying 1st place with two impressive showings thus far. Last week’s table topper Rassclart Addz experienced a fall from grace as his loss saw him slip to 11th place.

Notable mentions:

  1. Fixture of the week: The much anticipated fixture between Chrissyleboss XI vs Kwamz FC did not live up to its billing and was akin to a cagey top four clash as both teams scored significantly below the GW average. Chrissyleboss XI narrowly emerged victorious by 2 points, but the relatively low score dropped him down to 8th position in the league.

  2. Top scorer: Shoutout to Agueroooooooo with her league-topping 71 points this week, who proved that an early wildcard gamble can pay dividends. The inspired addition of Mbeumo bore fruit, whilst leaving plenty in the tank on her bench who scored 17 points in both weeks (with no reward). Perhaps the writing is on the wall with a suggested for next week…..

  3. Blooper: Unfortunately in the case of ApezAms he aptly demonstrated how not to execute a mass transfer week as his 28 points deduction ensured he finished the week with a negative score. It was a bold decision not to use the wildcard given the sheer volume of transfers he made, but for now it doesn’t seem to have paid off. In the long run he may have the last laugh, however his final tally of 26 points was a comedy of errors itself. To be fair even he used his wildcard he still would have lost the tie, so there may have a method to his madness.

  4. Unlucky: IamJoseMurinho may feel aggrieved as he had a GW score of 79 which would have been the highest had he not suffered a 32 points transfer deduction. It also meant that he lost his fixture against ChaBALRS, last year’s champion who seems to always have luck on his side. Estupinan’s inclusion on the bench was also a difficult choice as his 11 points would have also secured him victory. It is indeed a game of fine margins, but the season is long!

Looking towards the next games, the fixture of the week looks to be between A Shaw Thing (tied for second) vs Undisputed (6th place) with both teams boasting unbeaten recorded. Farabale 5 vs Gabi Gabby Gabi is another matchup to watch out for so we can expect some movement in the table following these results- perhaps we may even seen our first draw. For the teams who are yet to register a point so far (myself included), expect no respite as the matchups aren’t looking too favourable. Another loss could spell danger, but a win would balance out the league nicely. I shall stay true to my convictions and refrain from making a host of changes- but they have 1 more week to prove their worth otherwise it may be wildcard time soon.

Until next time,

To a simpler life;
