FPL Gameweek 3

Gameweek 3 is done and dusted- it’s safe to say it was a tough week for some. I humbly take the crown of ‘Donkey of the Week’ as I suffered a 40 point loss to ETHstateofmindS2 whilst using a bench boost alongside a 12 points transfer deduction. All that could have went wrong proceeded to do so:

  1. My attacking output was minimal.

  2. Defensively my team let me down as only Chilwell produced when all were playing at home.

  3. Akanji did not play and I wasted 4 transfer points on him- I’m considering forgetting all City players except Haaland.

  4. The bench boost only yielded me 4 points.

It was a mess to say the least, but there are still 35 GW’s to go so we can pause on the dramatics. To the high-level statistics, the average points scored in the league this week was 42, which was slightly lower than the average across all FPL players at 44 (standards are slipping guys). Comparing last week’s average fixture differential (16 points), it reduced quite a bit to 11 points this week. Whilst there were a few large differentials of 40, 30, 25 & 22, 11/18 fixtures were decided by single digits, with 8 games decided by five or fewer points! We also saw our first draw of the season between Chrissyleboss XI (who seems to be where all the action is at) and ChaBARLS. Given they only had 4 of the same players in their teams, the other players offset each other e.g. I.e. Andersen vs Gusto’s positive week.

Already we are seeing the intricacies of the H2H league at play. For example, Mainoo Shoes sits in 7th position with 3/3 wins but only has 153 points, whilst I (Caleb XI) sit 6th from bottom with 3 losses and a points tally of 160. Matchups are everything and it adds another dimension to the fixtures.

Notable mentions:

  1. Fixture of the week: The fixture between A Shaw Thing vs Undisputed was not as close as I expected, as the former won by 19 points, with the 12 points transfers deduction for Undisputed widening the margin of victory. He has now claimed top spot in the league given his unbeaten record and points tally of 195 (also the highest in the league). To be fair the top 2 in the league are rightfully placed as they are both unbeaten and have the highest scores (2nd place is CK with 192 points).

  2. Top scorer: This goes to ETHstateofmindS2, my worthy opponent for the week, as his 69 points was comfortably the highest in the league. Barring the two Brighton players, all of his team contributed at least 5 points, with that due to clean sheets or a goal/assist from each player. This was done whilst only making 1 transfer this week, so his team was well-placed with few changes needed.

  3. Blooper: As mentioned above, it’s gonna have to go to myself. This was one of my worser days but I shall rise soon enough.

  4. Unlucky: Gabi Gabby Gabi takes this one as his 1 point loss to Farabale 5 was incurred by his 4 points transfer deduction as he brought in Wissa & Saliba for Joao Pedro & Gabriel. Given Wissa was ultimately not used, that transfer could’ve waited and his victory would have been secured. Notable mentions go to JCFC & WeBackAgain as they also suffered 1 point losses, however they both scored below the league and FPL average so the defeat was somewhat warranted.

Looking towards the next games, the fixture of the week is between Nu Creations (total points of 173) vs Farabale 5 (total points of 174) with 1 point separating the two sides after 3 GW’s and both teams boasting unbeaten recorded. WeBackAgain vs Luke Sure sees the bottom two sides up against each other as they look to register their first points of the season, so much is to be played for!

Guys, I need to win this next one- please pray for me.

Until next time,

To a simpler life;
