FPL Gameweek 5

0-5…. I’m thinking of tanking. If I don’t win next week the league is off. All hope is not lost, but it is dwindling by the second. However, the lower you come from, the higher you rise…. to a certain extent.

To the high-level statistics, the average points scored in the league this week was 45, which was 1 point higher than the average across all FPL players. Comparing last week’s average fixture differential (11 points), it reduced quite a bit to 8 points this week. Only a third of fixtures were decided by double digits, whilst only 1 fixture had a 20+ points differential. We also saw two draws registered again this week, involving Casuals vs Luke Sure (48 points a piece), & RayzFC vs Nu Creations (35 points a piece). Casuals score of 48 was all the more impressive given that he gained 0 points from 3 players, so to scrape a draw and score above the league average is no mean feat.

Notable mentions:

  1. Fixture of the week: The fixture between World Class XI vs blue bandits amounted to a blowout as blue bandits (who I’ll touch on next) emerged victorious by 19 points with the second largest differential. She also topped the league for highest total, with a 60 point showing. The highest scoring fixture went to Agueroooooooo vs JCFC with a combined tally of 109 points.

  2. Top scorer: As mentioned above, blue bandits took the prize, with her defensive performance being particular  impressive in a week where many failed to register clean sheets, whilst the City duo of Silva & Alvarez proved to be inspired selections. All this was done without the inclusion of Haaland, meaning she represented the ballsy 7.7% daring to omit the robot from their squad.

  3. Blooper: This goes to IamHimFC with  a lowly score of 29 points. Captaining Maddison appeared to be a shrewd choice but Sheffield United proved a much harder fixture than anticipated. Mainoo Shoes is a close second as his 21 points loss was the heaviest defeat whilst he had the second lowest points tally.

  4. Unlucky: There’s quite a few contenders for this, with 1 point losses for Caleb XI, DanDman419, & Agueroooooooo. Given my struggles this season, I need to win something so let me take this title.

  5. Making Moves: There were not many large movements this week with most edging up or down a place or two. The largest change was for Mainoo Shoes whose loss dropped him 10 places to 19th in the table.

With the international break behind us and the European competitions underway, expect clubs involved to tinker with their lineups on the weekend. This may mean that squad selection is trickier to navigate as we attempt to predict who managers may bench as the number of games increase. The fixture of the week has to be between Caleb XI vs Nu Creations in what could be the UPSET of the league thus far! We see 35th vs 1st, with what in theory should be a lopsided victory, but as we all know stranger things have happened before. Lets not forget I was a preseason favourite in everyone’s eyes, so this is a shock to us all.

Until next time,

To a simpler life;
